Welcome Back Classes of ’74, ’79, ’84, ’89, ’94, ’99, ’04, ’09! 

Reconnect with fellow alumni and see how the UC San Diego School of Medicine is continuing to lead the way in medical education and training. Don’t miss out on this exciting weekend full of fun, friends and family as you share memories and make new ones.

The Medical Alumni Association invites School of Medicine alumni from the class years ending in 4 and 9 to celebrate their reunion September 19-21. This is a fun and exciting opportunity for alumni to renew friendships, refresh memories, and reconnect with their School of Medicine alma mater.

There have been many changes both to medical education and to the UC San Diego School of Medicine since your medical school days. We invite you to celebrate your reunion with us and see all of the changes. While you are here you will visit with classmates and faculty at relaxing beachside receptions, tour the Scripps Pier, and enjoy an action packed weekend in sunny San Diego.

School of Medicine Tour | Free

The Medical Education and Telemedicine (MET) Building on the School of Medicine Campus is a newly opened learning facility on the cutting edge of medical education and is home to the Center for the Future of Surgery, The Simulation Center, and the Professional Development Center.

Evening Welcome Reception and Happy Hour
Time: 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Cost: Free
Location: The Medical Education and Telemedicine Building, School of Medicine Campus

Kick off the fun by rejoining your classmates and friends for a complimentary cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception at the new Medical Education and Telemedicine (MET) Building.
Sports Medicine at the 2014 Olympic Games – Dr. Gloria Beim, SOM ’90
Time: 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Cost: Free
Location: The Medical Education and Telemedicine Building, School of Medicine Campus

School of Medicine alumnus, Dr. Gloria Beim, chief medical officer for Team USA at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games will give a fascinating talk on sports medicine and her experiences in Sochi, Russia.
Class of 1974 Dessert Reception
Time: 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Location: The Medical Education and Telemedicine Building, School of Medicine Campus
Cost: Free

All alumni from the class of 1974 are invited to join School of Medicine faculty members and staff for a special dessert reception in celebration of their 40-year reunion. (Class of 1974 and their guests only).

*Transportation for these events will be provided to and from the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club and SOM campus for those guests staying at the club.

Scripps Pier Tour or Visit the Birch Aquarium at Scripps
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Location: Scripps, La Jolla, CA
Cost: Free

Take an exciting tour of the Scripps Pier at the world-renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography and learn about the research conducted to find sources for marine-based medicines to help cure human disease. Or take the family on a tour of the Birch Aquarium and see more than 3,000 fish in 60+ habitats plus a museum on ocean & earth science! Perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific, Birch Aquarium at Scripps is the public exploration center for Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

Beach Picnic
Time: 12:30 – 2:00 p.m.
Location: La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club
Cost: $20/person; $10/kids

Relax on the beach and enjoy lunch with friends underneath shady umbrellas.
Evening Happy Hour and Dinner
Time: 5:30 – 10:00 p.m.

If you are looking for something fun and exciting to do on Sunday, while supporting UC San Diego at the same time, you can Pedal for the Cause!  September 21, our UC San Diego family will Ride with Triton Pride in Pedal the Cause, a cycling fundraiser benefitting UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, Salk Institute and Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute as they fight together to put an end to cancer. Please join us for a weekend of activities supporting the innovative research happening right here at UC San Diego. There are several ride options, including 10-, 25-, and 50-mile single-day rides, as well as a two-day 150-mile ride. Whether you want to start your own team with family and friends or join our team, this is a great way to see San Diego while joining the fight against cancer.
