So what’s it like to be up close and personal with a 16-foot-tall floral bulldog riding on a giant skateboard made of bright green Kermit pom-poms and vibrant purple dendrobium orchid florets?
For Kathy Sun, it was the stuff of dreams. Kathy is the marketing and special projects coordinator for Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Pet Foods, Inc., and was thrilled to be an integral part of the company's first Rose Parade float, “Natural
Entertainers,” which was a huge success in the 120th Rose Parade in Pasadena on January 1, 2009. As if the garden portion of the float with 20,000 florescent red Opium roses and 10,000 orange Verona roses wasn’t enough, Tillman and Tyson, the skateboarding bulldogs, entertained millions of Rose Parade viewers by skating around the float’s 55-foot-long oval track. “For someone who is from Pasadena,
I experienced the Rose Parade in a way I never have before—up close and personal,” says Sun. “It was an entertaining and rewarding day to see the smiles on so many faces.”
