What better way to test the odds than to play them?
UC San Diego alumni did just that on April 3 when they learned to gamble like the pros aboard John Wayne’s Wild Goose yacht. The occasion was the third UCSD Near You event to come to Orange County and, with over 100 attendees, it was the most successful yet.
Orange County Chapter Director Jennifer Lee Anderson credits the event’s success to the unique format of the night. “This was the first of the three events where there was a chance for audience participation and everyone seemed to have a great time,” Lee Anderson said.
The yacht, which has served as the backdrop for manyinfamous poker sessions starring talent like Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Bob Hope, featured a new guest on April 3: UCSD mathematics and computer science professorJeffrey Remmel, who entertained alumni as he broke down card playing to a science. Attendees experienced a glimpse of “the good life” as they raised the stakes while touring the Newport harbor — John Wayne style.
