Leaders at Cymer, Inc. Support
UCSD Students
Looking for a unique and meaningful way to commemorate the company’s
twentieth anniversary, leaders at Cymer, Inc., pledged $175,000
to the Jacobs School of Engineering Scholars Program. Both Cymer
chairman and CEO Bob Akins and Cymer co-founder Richard Sandstrom
received their bachelor and doctoral degrees from UCSD’s

Gifts
Pauline Foster has funded the University’s first $5 million
endowed dean’s chair. Part
of the endowment will help establish the
biennial Stanley Foster Symposium. MORE
Norma and Reuben L. Kershaw have
provided funds through the Kershaw Family Trust to establish the
Norma Kershaw Endowed Chair in the Archaeology of Ancient Israel
and Neighboring Lands. Professor Thomas Levy is founding chair

Don and Marilyn Short have pledged $360,000 to UCSD’s Stein
Institute for Research on Aging to fund two, three-year post-doctoral
fellowships focused on finding treatments for Parkinson’s
Disease.
