I finished
by undergraduate work in 1976. That being said, the program has
grown immensely in size and reputation. There are far more opportunities
for a biology student than ever before. For me, working in a
faculty member's lab was a significant step towards graduate
school. Note that "working" means initially volunteering
my time, working for credit via an honors project and eventually
being hired as a Staff Research Associate in that lab. Few faculty
would turn down and interested student willing to volunteer some
time. In short, I may not have like every class I had to take
in the biology program, but I thoroughly enjoyed the program
when I was able find my own way to opportunities outside the
standard course work.
